Our History

Stage One 2000 Musical Youth Theatre

Stage One 2000 was originally conceived in 1983 for the children of the adult members of The Wallasey Operatic Society and was led by Percy and Doreen French.  At first, it involved workshops and 'in-house' performances at the premises in Grosvenor Street, leading to our production of 'Toad Of Toad Hall' being staged at the Floral Pavilion Theatre in February 1984.  This was also performed later the same year at the Liverpool Garden Festival.  Many other shows followed, including 'The Wizard Of Oz', 'Finian's Rainbow', 'The Boyfriend', and 'Bye Bye Birdie', with Doreen French as the main producer.

Carole Hille took over as producer in September 1988 with shows such as 'Love From Judy' (NODA winner in 1989), 'Babes In Arms', 'Half A Sixpence', 'The Wizard of Oz', 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe' and 'Once Upon A Time'.

Sharon Henderson became our producer in September 1994 with her friend, Trish Gaskell as MD, producing 'The Pirates Of Penzance', 'Dazzle', 'The Dracula Spectacula', and 'Barnum'.  In 1998/1999, 'Crazy For You' was produced by Brenda Davies.

In September 1999, the "juniors" became and independent unit and were re-named "Stage One 2000", their first show being 'The Millennium Bandwagon', created by Allison Bentley-Jones and Carol Davies MD, followed by 'HONK!' (NODA Production Winner in 2001) which was directed by one of our own Youth members, Luke Gibbard, with Nikki Molley as our new MD.

We then had a change of venue to The Pacific Road Centre for 'The Slipper And The Rose' - Brenda Davies taking over as producer, with Nikki Molley MD and Allison Bentley-Jones as Choreographer, the team remaining the same to this day.

Since then, Stage One 2000 have performed a wide variety of shows at The Floral Pavilion Theatre, including 'Calamity Jane', 'Summer Holiday', and the brilliant 'Les Miserables'. When The Floral Pavilion Theatre closed for an extensive re-build, we relocated to The Carlton Little Theatre, performing 'Disco Inferno' (nominated by NODA), returning to The Floral Pavilion in 2009 with 'Return To The Forbidden Planet'.

The Carlton Little Theatre has since become our "home" hosting our productions of 'HONK!' (NODA nominated), and 'The Wizard Of Oz' (NODA nominated).  We also recently enjoyed the opportunity to perform our own 'Carnival Of Music' at Westbourne Hall in West Kirby.

Our production of 'Seussical The Musical' was another success at The Carlton Little Theatre on 2013 and we will be performing 'The Dracula Spectacula' there in 2014, which promises to be a highly entertaining, comedic venture!

Many of our past members have moved on to successful careers in the performing arts, often inspired solely by their experiences at Stage One 2000. We are so hugely proud of them, and of each and every one of our members over the years. We are beyond grateful to all the people who have worked with us and helped us throughout our journey and we all look forward to further success in the future.
